Cocoa police seek good Samaritan from fatal hit-and-run crash

COCOA, Fla. — Cocoa police are searching for a good Samaritan who stopped to help the victim of a hit-and-run crash in December on the 900 block of U.S. 1.

The victim did not survive and police are hoping the woman has information that could help lead to the arrest.

Police said the woman, who was one of the first on scene in the accident that claimed the life of Talan Trent, is critical to their investigation.

Officers said the woman is blonde, was wearing medical scrubs and has the first name Shelly.

“We don't know who that person is. We're just asking if you see this or if somebody tells you about this. We just ask that you come forward. We'd just like to ask you some questions about the investigation,” Cocoa police Chief Mike Cantaloupe said.

Police said Trent, 19, was traveling north on U.S. 1 near the old Burger King when his motorcycle was cut off by a red 2005 Nissan Murano. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot and left Trent behind. %

Officers said witnesses told them Trent was conscious when they first arrived, but he would later die from his injuries.

Police said they have a suspect, but have not been able to make an arrest and fear they can’t without Shelly.

“Without being able to find this person it's going to be very hard to close this case out,” Cantaloupe said.

Investigators ask anyone with information to call police.
