Commissioners approve purchase of land for Pine Hills cultural center

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County Commissioners on Tuesday voted to approve the purchase of land that they plan to develop into a $2.5 million cultural center in the Pine Hills neighborhood.

The new cultural center will sit on a lot previously occupied by a Goodings Supermarket at West Colonial Drive and North Hiawassee Road.

The project is funded by Orange County’s INVEST initiative, which allocates $5 million to each district for improvements.

Commissioner Victoria Siplin earmarked $2.5 million for the new cultural center.

Other INVEST projects include playground renovations, park expansions and road improvements.

The cultural center will feature meeting and event space and will provide information on social services.

Commissioners hope to open the new center in 2018.
