Cops: Convicted sex offender cut off GPS monitor, fought with police dog

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Melbourne police said a convicted sex offender ran from police and fought with their police dog after cutting off his GPS ankle monitor.

But police said that wasn't Gabriel Guzman's only violation. Authorities said Guzman was already wanted on a violation of probation in connection with his conviction on a charge of lewd and lascivious battery on a minor.

During his first appearance, Guzman told the judge he had just been released from prison in March.

The judge then ordered Guzman be held without bond on his violation of probation charge, despite Guzman's explanation.

"I had an eye injury. I had a nail penetrate my eyeball. I missed my counseling appointment," Guzman said.

Probation officials said Guzman gave incorrect information to his parole officer and tampered with his GPS device.

He was given a $10,000 bond on the new charges related to resisting officers.
