Cops: Man assaulted deputy during DUI traffic stop

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A Seminole County driver will spend Labor Day behind bars for assaulting a deputy during a traffic stop and then making a run for it, authorities said.

Deputies said it did not take them long to track down Michael Poindexter just a few miles away to his Hidden Springs condominium in Altamonte Springs, where he was arrested.

The deputy had Poindexter's license and tag number, authorities said.

Investigators said Poindexter was pulled over in a McDonald's parking lot on Semoran Boulevard on suspicion of DUI.

The deputy said he gave Poindexter a field sobriety test, which he failed, and that is when he assaulted the deputy.

"When he went to arrest the driver, the driver resisted, pushed the deputy away, jumped in the car and fled the scene," said Lt. Peter Brensestuhl of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said Poindexter faces battery on law enforcement charges, fleeing and DUI.

He's being held without bond.
