Cops: Mom took off with kids after thinking DCF would take custody

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Two girls who officials said were taken by their mother are in state custody.

Authorities said Barbara Brown, 37, took off with her two daughters, Kennedy Little, 15, and Emily Brown, 7, from Lake Walkes, after she learned the Department of Children and Families was going to take custody of them.

The three were found in North Carolina over the weekend unharmed.

Information on possible charges against Brown was not released.
