Corrections officers arrested after allegedly beating inmate

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Two Marion County corrections officers are waking up in jail as inmates Wednesday morning.

Authorities said that last month, officers Richard Smith and Dustin Lay beat an inmate so badly, it prompted an internal investigation.

The officers were taken off the job after the incident.

Smith and Lay were arrested on battery charges.
