Semi truck driver in critical condition after I-95 crash

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A crash involving a semi truck on I-95 in Daytona Beach blocked both the northbound and southbound lanes for roughly seven hours Saturday.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. on northbound I-95 near the LPGA Boulevard exit.

According to troopers, a Ford pickup truck, driven by 35-year-old Dannie Motley, merged from LPGA Boulevard onto I-95 directly in the path of a semi truck.

The semi truck driver tried to swerve to avoid the merging pickup truck. The semi truck subsequently crashed through the guardrail and overturned.

The semi truck driver, 53-year-old Alan Brandon, had to be extricated and was taken to Halifax Hospital in critical condition, FHP said.

All lanes of the highway were shut down for roughly 7 hours as crews worked to clean up fuel tand debris from the crash.

Troopers reopened the highway around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The crash remains under investigation.
