Family narrowly misses 'unusual' fire at Orlando home

ORLANDO, Fla. — Firefighters responded to a house fire that broke out at a west Orlando home Friday.

Large flames and heavy black smoke were shooting from the roof of the Wheatley Street home as multiple crews worked to put out the blaze.

Part of the roof collapsed.

Orlando Fire Department officials said no one was home when the fire started and there were no injuries.

Firefighters said neighbors told them that the two people who live in the home had just left for the holidays before the fire broke out.

The assistant fire chief said it is unusual to have a fire in the attic during the middle of the day. Investigators are on scene trying to determine a cause. They said it is unlikely that any sort of heating equipment in use due to the cold weather was involved in the fire.

No other details were released.
