Daytona 500 fans create traffic mess in Volusia

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.,None — Thousands of fans heading out to the Speedway for the Daytona 500 race have created a traffic mess on the roadways in Volusia County.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers have shut down the ramp from eastbound I-4 to northbound I-95 due to the heavy congestion. Troopers previously shut down the ramp from eastbound I-4 to eastbound U.S. 92, but it has since reopened.

The Daytona 500 race starts at 1:30 p.m.

Traffic is backed up for several miles on eastbound I-4 heading into Daytona Beach. Aditionally, U.S. 92 is at a stand-still around I-95.

Troopers say I-95 northbound is less congested than I-4, however around the Speedway exits drivers can expect heavy delays.
