DCF, wildlife officials host camp for foster kids

TALLAHASSEE — Child welfare officials are partnering with state wildlife officials to host summer camps for Florida foster youth.
 
The Department of Children and Families and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are hosting two Camps for Champions this month.
 
Campers will fish, play mud tug-of-war, enjoy campfires and watch movies under the stars. The Joe Budd Youth Conservation Center encourages a love of the outdoors and teaches campers how to be stewards of Florida's natural resources by incorporating conservation education into activities such as boating, fishing, archery and wildlife viewing.
 
Interim DCF Secretary Mike Carroll said the camps jive with one of the agency's main goals: helping foster kids have normal experiences by allowing them to have sleepovers, play sports or attend summer camp.
