DeLand residents to face potential fine if caught without wearing face covering in public

DELAND, Fla. — The City of Deland is the latest government in Central Florida to issue a face mask mandate.

Unlike a lot of the other places in Central Florida, DeLand’s mandate includes a fine up to $100 for people not wearing masks.

“As cases continue to rise in DeLand at an alarming rate, the City Commission felt compelled to take additional steps to fight the spread of COVID-19 within our community,” said Mayor Bob Apgar.

There are areas where individuals aren’t required to wear masks such as medical facilities, governmental facilities and schools.

The mandate does cover most businesses.

That order went into effect Friday.
