DeLand shooting victim dies after being dropped off at hospital

DeLAND, Fla. — Investigators are still looking for leads in a deadly shooting in DeLand late Tuesday night.

Deputies said 25-year-old Antwan Harris was shot at a home on South Parsons Avenue and was dropped off at Florida Hospital by so-called friends. He died a short time later.

“I just want whoever done this to my son be caught,” said Harris’ mother, Alison Williams.

Williams said her son was a good-hearted father of four young children.

Investigators said no one called to report the gunshots. The sheriff's office didn’t find out about the shooting until an employee with Florida Hospital DeLand reported it.

“I just got a call saying my son been shot,” said Williams. “I came down here, the police told me to go to the hospital. I didn't even know he was dead when I walked into the hospital."

Crime scene investigators were still collecting evidence at the scene 14 hours after the shooting. Investigators are trying to figure out what led up to the shooting. They haven't said if any suspects have been identified.

A family member told WFTV the friends who dropped Harris off at the hospital were no longer cooperating with law enforcement.

“I'm not going to rest until they catch who did this to him. They took away my son,” said Williams.

Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.

WFTV has learned Harris has been arrested for two felonies in the past, one involving drug possession. Both charges were later downgraded to misdemeanors.
