DeLand woman says she was attacked by strange man in her home

DELAND, Fla. — A DeLand woman said she was attacked after she woke up to find a strange man in her house, but she's thankful for her neighbors who stepped in to help.

Sujhheil Burgado told Eyewitness News she was in her home with her two young sons when the incident happened.

"I really honestly thought that I was going to die," Burgado said.

Burgado still hasn't fully got her voice back but said she's recovering after being choked.

"When I opened my eyes, he was there," Burgado said. "He just went straight for my neck and was like pushing down kind of and then that's when we start fighting."

Burgado said she had never before seen the suspect, 22-year-old Guillermo Mancio-Zamora. Burgado managed to call 911 around the same time her neighbors intervened.

"I never really talk to my neighbors. I don't have friends in this neighborhood, but I owe them my life last night," Burgado said.

Burgado said she believes Mancio-Zamora got into her home through a window. He was booked into the Volusia County Jail and charged with burglary and battery.
