Pornography-filled emails sent to Deltona city leaders

DELTONA, Fla. — Volusia County investigators are trying to figure out who sent emails that contained pornographic images to some Deltona city leaders. The city commissioners and mayor believe they were targeted.

Deltona City Commissioner Heidi Herzberg said the message she received looked like it was from the Boy Scouts, but when she opened it she was shocked to see several pornographic images of women engaging in sex acts.

"All of a sudden, bam, full color," said Herzberg.

Herzberg wasn't the only one who received the email, it was also sent to dozens of others as well.

"It was a huge list of who it went to. A lot of elected officials all over our county," said Deltona Mayor John Masiarczyk.

Herzberg said at first glance the email appeared to be from a charity event.

"The first two looked like mug shots, [and] then you went to an old school black and white photos," said Herzberg.

She said as she scrolled down the page, the contents took a dramatic turn.

"It was shocking. The farther down you scrolled the worse they became," said Herzberg.

Masiarczyk said he received the same email, but had deleted it before seeing the pornographic images.

He said when he learned what was actually in the email, he had the IT department wipe the pictures from everyone's email accounts and had the spam filters set to block the IP address where the images came from.

"This was intentional," said Masiarczyk. "It was just an act out there by some fool who thought he was going to cause some disruption to us."

Investigators said if they are able to find who sent the emails, they will work to find out the intent, which could help them determine if a crime was committed.
