Deltona man arrested, accused of exposing himself to trick-or-treaters

DELTONA, Fla. — Some young trick-or-treaters were shocked when a Deltona man answered the door in a robe with his genitals exposed, Volusia County deputies said.

Deputies said the man did the same thing when a deputy went to the man's house to investigate the accusation.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the father of two boys, ages 12 and 14, called deputies after his sons told him that when they went to a Deed Circle house, a man came to the door wearing a robe but exposing his chest and genitals.

When a deputy responded to the house and looked in a window, he saw a naked John Vowels, 63, sitting on a couch, deputies said.

According to investigators, when Vowels came to the door to talk with the deputy, he was wearing a bathrobe and his genitals were exposed.

In his report, the deputy said he could smell alcohol on Vowels' breath and that Vowels' speech was so slurred he was hard to understand.

Deputies said Vowels said he may have answered the door in his robe when trick-or-treaters came by.

Vowels told deputies that he offered the trick-or-treaters money because he did not have any candy.

Vowels was arrested and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach. He is charged with two counts of lewd or lascivious exhibition.
