Volusia deputies search for a suspect in fatal stabbing

DELTONA, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a large fight that led to a 21-year-old man being stabbed to death in Deltona early Saturday morning.

Deputies were called to a home on Foxboro Circle just after 4 a.m.

Witnesses told investigators about a dozen people were involved in a fight that broke out during a house party and spilled out into the driveway.

By the time deputies responded, people were crowding the driveway, which is where deputies found the victim, Ruben Puello, on his back, bleeding from a stab wound to the torso.

The 21-year-old man was taken to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, where he was later pronounced dead.

“Before you knew it saw lights flashing, fire truck ambulances and police cars,” said a neighbor who did not want to be identified.

One man said he saw the victim lying on the driveway.

“When I came out you could just hear basically some loud noise. I thought it was gunshots. Afterward I found out it was windows being broken,” neighbor Calvin Ross said.

Crime scene investigators placed yellow markers around the front yard and a car in the driveway.

There were two other injuries reported as a result of the fight. One person sustained a broken leg and the other complained of a shoulder injury.

The Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit is now working to determine what caused the fight.

Deputies said they haven’t made any arrests and are still looking for suspects.
