Deltona mother reunited with daughter 4 years after girl's disappearance

DELTONA, Fla. - A Deltona mother was reunited with her young daughter who had been missing for four years.

Deputies said Jodie Borchert had legal custody of her daughter while the girl’s father, Aaron Cox, had some weekend visitation rights.

In August 2009, however, Borchert went to pick up her daughter from Cox’s home and both of them were missing.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Cox, charging him with interference with child custody.

Deputies said they had no viable leads until a tip on Monday revealed that the girl, who is now 12 years old, and Cox were spotted in Mexico.

The information came from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The tip led to a remote area in the mountains of Hidalgo, Mexico, two hours outside Mexico City.

The pair was spotted Friday morning and authorities arrested Cox.

On Saturday, the girl was flown from Mexico City to Miami, where she was reunited with her mother.

Deputies from the marshal’s office in Miami took Cox into custody and booked him into jail there to await extradition to Volusia County.
