Deputies: 1 of 2 teenage boys shot in Orange County dies

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 15-year-old boy was killed and a 17-year-old boy was injured Wednesday evening when a fight escalated into an exchange of gunfire, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were called shortly before 9:30 p.m. to Hummingbird Lane near Lake Underhill Road and South Chickasaw Trail, where Joshua Zapata had been shot, Orange County Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said.

"We heard some voices out here and we looked out the window and there were some people across the street," said Stephen Stull, who lives nearby.

Zapata, who was described as very uncooperative, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition, Tejada-Monforte said.

Investigators said Anthony Jamie Santiago, who was shot multiple times, was found minutes later on nearby Puffin Drive.

Santiago was taken to Florida Hospital East, where he died.

Deputies said the boys got into a fight, but its cause is unknown. Neither boy lived in the neighborhood.

The shootings remain under investigation.

No other details were given.
