Police: Gunman sought after man shot, killed in Clermont Publix parking lot

Police said a man was shot and killed outside a Publix in Clermont.

The shooting happened at about 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Publix on County Road 455 and East State Road 50.

The victim was described as a man in his late teens or early 20s. His name has not been released.

A witness reported to police that a white car sped away from the area after the shooting, but police do not know for sure if the car was involved.

A heavy law enforcement surrounded the parking lot as shoppers left the store.

“We love this area. It’s a wonderful area. I come here every day to go shopping. (The shooting) is unsettling,” said witness Julie Watrous.

Watrous said she saw the victim collapse behind her car.
