Deputies: Condo owner shoots, kills tenant near Florida Mall

ORLANDO, Fla. — Police are investigating after they said a condo owner shot and killed one of his renters who allegedly attacked him with a knife at the Plaza de Las Fuentes condos near the Florida Mall.

Deputies said 41-year-old Larry Duggan knocked on Dennis Brosnen's door at about 10 a.m., demanding cash.

“The homeowner said, ‘OK, I'll give you some money,’ but the victim was more and more aggressive, came inside uninvited and grabbed a knife,” said Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jane Watrel.

Deputies said Brosnen opened fire, shooting Duggan. He then called 911 and even tried to save Duggan’s life, police said.

“The homeowner obviously felt bad enough to call 911,” said Watrel.

Investigators said Brosnen allowed Duggan to stay in another nearby condo for free as a favor to another friend, but they won't say why the argument got so heated.

Duggan has an extensive criminal history, including several arrests for theft and battery.

Sheriff's investigators will turn the case over to the State Attorney's Office to determine if charges should be filed against Brosnen.
