Deputies: Fake cop pulls woman over near Edgewater

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 59-year-old Edgewater woman was pulled over late Tuesday by someone who was impersonating a police officer, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident was reported shortly after 9:45 p.m. at Old Mission Road and West Park Avenue in Volusia County's Ambrose Hull Grant area, deputies said.

Investigators said the woman flagged down two deputies to report that she had just been pulled over by a man wearing a gray shirt embroidered with a gold oval badge and black pants.

The woman said the man told her she had a headlight out, but when she asked which one, he walked toward the front of her vehicle and said they were both working, deputies said.

She told investigators that he insisted on seeing her driver's license, but she felt uncomfortable so she drove off.

The woman told deputies that the man wasn't wearing a gun belt. She said he was driving a black sedan with blue-and-white lights on the roof.

Deputies weren't able to find the vehicle during a search of the area.

No other details were given.
