Deputies investigate shootout in Orange County neighborhood

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County deputies are investigating a shootout between the occupants of two cars in an Orange County neighborhood near Orange Blossom Trail and Sand Lake Road.

Deputies swarmed the neighborhood around Dickens Avenue near Skyview Drive Monday and blocked off streets.

Witnesses said following the shooting, a man with a gun hopped out of a white car and ran down the street.

“My husband heard about five or six gunshots. It came from the back up the house,” resident Janet Garcia said.

They said he was knocking on doors and trying to get in homes with the weapon still in his hand.

“I mean, with all the children out here, it’s crazy. This couldn’t be going on,” resident Amber Jipson said.

Deputies said the shootout continued until the white car stopped on Skyview Drive.

Investigators said the other car involved, possibly a silver Cadillac, fled the area.

Residents in the area said they couldn’t get to their homes because of the law enforcement presence.

Some drivers tried to cut through to a grocery store parking lot but were turned away.

Crime scene investigators were looking over bullet casings on the ground, while people who live nearby watched, hoping whoever is behind the shootout will be taken off the streets.

“It used to be, if you stayed off OBT you had no problem, but around this neighborhood, it’s getting really bad,” Garcia said.

Deputies said they believe they found the man with the gun and were trying to figure out what sparked the shooting, but they haven’t said if anyone has been arrested.
