Deputies investigating suspicious death near Ormond Beach

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County sheriff's investigators have launched a homicide investigation after the body of a 47-year-old man was found in a house near Ormond Beach Wednesday.

Investigators said the body of John Collins was discovered by a woman who lives at the same residence on Sunny Palm Drive.

According to investigators, the body had obvious signs of trauma.

Investigators said the woman told them she and Collins had an "on-again, off-again relationship." She said he had been staying with her recently.

According to investigators, the woman told them that she left the house Tuesday night and found Collins' body when she returned to the house around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman had a friend with her when Collins' body was discovered, according to investigators.

Investigators said that a homicide investigation is customary in suspicious death cases and that an autopsy will be performed Thursday morning.
