Deputies: Lake County man causes crash to bring attention to dangerous intersection

MINNEOLA, Fla. — A Clermont man took matters into his own hands when he said deputies weren’t doing enough to prevent people from running stop signs at a Minneola intersection.

Bruce John Homer, 61, is accused of intentionally causing wrecks or pulling out in front of people to get them to stop at the intersection of Fosgate and Grassy Lake roads in Minneola, deputies said.

Homer told deputies, “People are always running the stop sign at this intersection and since you guys (law enforcement) don’t do anything about it, I did,” investigators said.

The driver in the other vehicle told deputies that he drove through the intersection and Homer pulled in front of him.

In a separate incident, Homer said he and his wife were almost involved in a crash at the same intersection a couple of weeks ago and then admitted to deputies, “I ran some guy off the road after I saw him blow through the intersection,” investigators said.

Homer admitted again on several occasions that he was sick of law enforcement not doing anything about people running the stop sign and nothing will happen until someone dies, deputies said.

No injuries were reported.

Homer faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and reckless driving. He is out of the Lake County Jail on bail.
