Cops: Man faked carjacking fearing parents would be angry for crashing car

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County deputies said they spent several hours investigating an alleged carjacking and crash, only to find out it was a hoax.

Investigators said a car hit a sign for the Wetherbee subdivision on Wetherbee Road late Tuesday night.

Authorities said the driver, 24-year-old Jan Emmanuel Rosado, initially told them a van pulled up to his car and a man with a gun jumped out.

Officers said Rosado also made a 911 call from a 7-Eleven.

"What he did tonight was waste the resources of both police agencies for this ghost carjackers, while he was just trying to cover up the fact that he crashed the vehicle," said Lt. Paul Hopkins of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Rosado told deputies he was afraid his parents would be mad at him for crashing the car.

Deputies said Rosado is facing several charges, including false report of a crime.
