Deputies: Man shot at Seminole County home

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was critically injured early Monday in a shooting at a home near the Chuluota neighborhood, the Seminole County Sheriff's Office said.

The shooting was reported shortly after 12:30 a.m. at a home on Pickett Downs Drive near Fort Christmas and Lake Mills roads, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said Kim Cannaday said.

Investigators said a man in his early 30s was shot in the face and in his side. His identity hasn't been released.

A woman told Channel 9's Jeff Levkulich that her dog found the neighbor lying in her yard and began barking.

Deputies said the man was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition to undergo surgery.

Resident Bilal Abdurrashid said he was devastated to learn of the shooting, which he said is unprecedented for the neighborhood.

"Any human being who gets shot, you feel for them," he said. "It's a small community. We all know each other. We kind of wave at each other as we drive by."

Abdurrashid said the victim has lived at the home with his wife and their two children for two years.

"Investigators are working to identify the suspect who is still outstanding at this time," Cannaday said. "They believe the suspect and victim know each other and this was not a random act."

The gunman's motive is unknown, Cannaday said.

The shooting remains under investigation.

No other details were given.
