ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Orange County deputies are trying to figure out what led to a melee in a park that ended with a man being shot Thursday night.
Gunfire erupted around 6 p.m. in a neighborhood near Peppermill Park close to Orange Blossom Trail.
The neighborhood quickly turned into a crime scene with yellow caution tape and sheriff’s cars blocking off roads and driveways.
“I’ve been living here for about 10 to 12 years. I haven’t heard of anything of this magnitude happening here,” said resident Rodd Campbell.
Deputies said at least 10 people got into a fight at the park, and someone pulled out a gun and shot a man at least one time.
Wendy Perez said her family heard the gunfire along Uracus Street in south Orange County.
“I recalled one, my dad heard two or three,” she said. “I haven’t heard anything like this in a while.”
Channel 9’s Ryan Hughes saw deputies speaking to two men in a nearby car, who may have tried to drive the victim to the hospital.
The victim was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Deputies have not said if anyone is in custody.
