Deputies: Man suspected in Brevard robberies recently released from prison

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - A career criminal went on a robbery spree just days after being released from prison, according to investigators in Brevard County.

Deputies said surveillance video shows Robert Barber, 41, walking into the Dollar General on North U.S. 1 in Mims to try to rob the place.

According to investigators, he had just tried to rob the Walgreens next door, but the clerk couldn't get the cash register open.

Deputies said Barber used a broken bottled to threaten the clerks.

Surveillance video shows the Dollar General clerk back up in fear, but when she comes back, investigators said Barber snatched cash out of her hand and left the store.

When deputies arrived, they said the employees pointed them in the direction Barber went and authorities were able to chase him into some woods behind the store where he was arrested.

Deputies said Barber was just released from prison two weeks ago.

He is charged with attempted robbery and robbery with a weapon.

He was being held without bond at the Brevard County jail Thursday.
