Deputies: Mother left young children home alone, one tied up with belt

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - An Orange County mother is facing child neglect charges after she allegedly left one of her young boys tied up with a belt to stop him from getting away.
"They had him like an animal in there. That was really shocking to me," said Derek Riley.
Riley, a delivery driver for Rent-a-Center, was next door to an apartment Tuesday when he heard small voices from the other side of a fence.
"I looked over the fence and I seen kids there. I called out to the parents. Nobody came to the door," said Riley.
According to the arrest report, Riley saw the two boys and tried to get through the fence to help them, but he couldn't, so he called deputies.
Orange County sheriff's deputies said the boys' mother, Neftaldry Escarment, used a belt to tie one of the children to the handle of a sliding glass door. They said the door to the home was open.
"You know how you would tie your dog to a tree outside? It was like that circumstance a little bit," said Riley.
Investigators said when they went into the home they found a pan full of grease within reach of the children, who were estimated to be 2- and 5-years-old. They said the boys' diapers and pants were soiled with urine.
"They shouldn't have kids, simple. They shouldn't. Not everybody should be able to have kids. That's how I see it," said Riley.
Riley said he was just in the right place at the right time and worries what might have happened if he hadn't spoken up on the little boys' behalf.
"They could've really got hurt, God forbid. It didn't get that far. I took it upon myself to make it known what was going on," said Riley.
Florida Department of Children and Families said they will consider placing the children with a family member if one comes forward requesting custody.
Escarment was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail with a $1,000 bond.
