BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - The man suspected in two armed robberies in Brevard County was arrested Monday night following a standoff with deputies.

It all started around 3 p.m. Monday when investigators said Mark Holland stole tennis shoes from the SuperFast convenience store along North Courtenay Parkway on Merritt Island. Authorities said he then held up a nearby fruit stand for $75.

Authorities said they tracked the Holland to an apartment complex on Needles Boulevard where he barricaded himself inside one of the units.

Deputies evacuated the complex during the standoff, forcing at least two-dozen people out of their homes, while they tried to talk Holland into coming outside.

Investigators said the used a robot to locate Holland inside the apartment, but couldn't get to him.

According to deputies, they also used tear gas to try to force him out of the apartment, but in the end they had to send in the SWAT team to get Holland out.

He was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. Monday.
