Deputies say 19-month-old girl's death a homicide

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The death of a 19-month-old girl has been ruled a homicide, according to Orange County Sheriff's investigators.

Investigators said Nyana Vargas was brought to Arnold Palmer Hospital by a babysitter on Sept. 6.

According to investigators, Nyana was unresponsive when she arrived at the hospital and was place on life support. She died the next day.

Investigators said the Orange County Medical Examiner has determined that Nyana died as a result of blunt force trauma to her head and neck.

Nyana lived with her mother, who was at work at the time the girl was brought to the hospital, investigators said.

Investigators said no arrests have been made in the case.
