Deputies search for man accused of attacking girlfriend with ax

BELLEVIEW, Fla. — A man accused of attacking his girlfriend with an ax is missing after Marion County deputies said he cut off his GPS monitor.

Reginald Gardner has a lengthy criminal history and has been arrested more than a dozen times for domestic violence, drugs and battery charges.

Gardner was arrested in February after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend with an ax. She survived and contacted deputies, who arrested Gardner at his home, according to officials.

A judge allowed Gardner out on bond, but ordered him to wear a GPS monitor. Deputies said they received an alert that his GPS device had been damaged, shut off or cut off and that they "no longer had tracking" on Gardner.

"He is a violent individual and we want to make sure we know where he is," Lauren Lettelier, of the Marion County Sheriff's Office, said.

Deputies said Gardner's last known location was on the 5900 block of Southeast Robinson Road near Lake Lillian.

Deputies aren't sure where Gardner or his GPS device is. They also said they haven't located the victim, but don't believe she is in any danger.

The Sheriff's Office said if anyone sees Gardner to call 911 immediately and not approach him at any point in time.

Investigators believe he hasn't left town and is still in the Belleview area.
