Deputies seek driver who dropped off fatally wounded home invasion suspect at Ocala hospital

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Shawn Michael King was pronounced dead at Ocala Health Summerfield Monday night after being shot during an alleged Marion County home invasion, deputies said.

He was dropped off at the hospital by another man, one who investigators are now looking for in connection with the death and home invasion.

The individual was caught on security video pulling King out of the car and leaving him on the ground before knocking on a window at the ER and driving away.

“This person dropping off the suspect/decedent in this case at the hospital, just dragging him out of the car and just putting him there on the ground and banging on the windows and leaving,” Marion County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lauren Lettelier said. “As soon as the hospital found (King), they got him on a gurney and brought him inside and started working on him and they could not find a pulse.”

The home invasion was reported earlier in the night Monday on SE 158th Place, deputies said.

The homeowner told investigators that when the invaders broke into his home he barricaded himself and his girlfriend in the bedroom.

When the invader tried to break into the room, the victim said he opened fire, deputies said.

The victim told the Marion County Sheriff’s Office that the injured man, identified later as King, was taken by his accomplices out of the home and to the hospital.

Investigators do not know if there was anyone else in the car when King was dropped off at the hospital or if the driver was involved in the home invasion.
