Deputies shoot man accused of shooting at them at home near Clermont

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies twice shot a 42-year-old man early Sunday after he shot at them while they responded to a domestic dispute at a home south of Clermont, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened at about 4:30 a.m. on Dwights Road east of Postal Colony Road after Michael Carroll got into a fight with his 21-year-old son, Sean Carroll, and his son's friend, 19-year-old Evan Kaplan, Lake County Sgt. Fred Jones said.

Deputies were called out to the home by the older Carroll's wife after she was punched in the eye while trying to break up the fight, Jones said.

“Upon arrival, the defendant fired multiple shots at deputies,” Jones said. “Deputies returned fire, resulting in the defendant being shot.”

Jones said the older Carroll fired a rifle at the two responding deputies.

The man was brought to an unspecified Orlando hospital, where he underwent surgery. He's in stable condition.

The younger Carroll and Kaplan were charged with battery. %
