Deputy opens fire at robbery suspect in Orange Co.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Several law enforcement agencies assisted Orange County Sheriff’s deputies as they surrounded the area near a CVS drugstore on West Colonial Drive and Apopka Vineland Road after the pharmacy was robbed around 8:15  Saturday morning.

As deputies arrived they saw the suspect leaving the store’s parking lot, carrying a gun.

“They were trying to facilitate the arrest when the suspect produced a hand gun and that is when the deputy fired at the suspect,” Ginette Rodriguez, with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, said. “He did make off with an undisclosed amount of money.”

Deputies said the suspect fled to a nearby apartment complex, forcing deputies to shut down traffic on West Colonial Drive and Apopka Vineland Road.

“We do have an active perimeter set up. The suspect is believed to be armed,” Rodriguez said.

Three weeks ago the same CVS location was robbed following a string of robberies in the area at other stores, which has led investigators to believe the robber may have struck before.

“Deputies recognized him as one of the potential suspects that may be linked to other robberies in the area,” Rodriguez said.
