Standoff with deputies, distraught woman ends in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Deputies and SWAT members surrounded a motel in Daytona Beach Wednesday evening.

According to police, a distraught woman barricaded herself in a room at the motel.

SWAT members with rifles were on nearby rooftops, and police said the woman fired around 18 shots inside the room
at 726 N. Atlantic Avenue.

Police said the woman appeared distraught over an incident with a boyfriend, and she was alone in the room.

The police activity created traffic problems in the area as thousands of motorcyclists are in the area for Bike Week activities.

Police used tear gas to force the woman from the room. The was taken into custody.
