2 charged after suspected carjacking in Volusia Co.

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — What started out as a day at the beach ended up with two people being charged after a carjacking Tuesday afternoon.

A patrol unit responded to a convenience store on 1134 Mason Avenue after a victim, Jennifer Wade, said she had been forced out of a car after coming back to Orlando from the beach in Daytona with Audrey McWhite, Rodney Hamilton and two other people.

Wade said they all left the beachside together and McWhite was driving.

Daytona Beach police said Hamilton assaulted Wade and Wade was forced out of the car at Mason Avenue.

Seminole County sheriff's authorities said deputies stopped a vehicle and detained four people. A Sheriff's Department spokesperson said the four will be questioned by Daytona Beach police.

The vehicle the four were traveling in was followed into Seminole County by a Volusia County Sheriff's Department helicopter.

The car was stopped in Seminole County. McWhite is being charged with automobile theft and Hamilton is being charged with battery.

Wade is being treated at Halifax Hospital for abrasions to the knee, foot, elbow and a knot on the upper right eye.

Several Seminole County deputies' vehicles along the side of Interstate 4 near State Road 436 caused traffic slowdowns Tuesday afternoon.
