Deputies: Teens steal car, send officers on wild ride through Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Two teenagers are in custody after deputies said they led them on a wild ride across Volusia County.

Channel 9’s Kristyn Caddell found out the suspects were wanted long before they allegedly jumped into a man's SUV and took off.

Deputies said a 63-year-old man stopped at the Valero gas station on U.S. 17 Wednesday morning and from there it only took the suspects moments to steal the victim’s Toyota Highlander.

Officers said they jumped in the man’s car, sped off, and spent 30 minutes weaving in and out of traffic.

The whole ordeal was caught on the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office helicopter.

Deputies said 19-year-old Robert Adams and 18-year-old Diante Thompson eventually pulled into the Volusia County Mall entrance and from there had nowhere to go but into the mall where officers were waiting for them.

Officers said they were carrying crack cocaine.

Both suspects are facing criminal charges from the incident, as well as unrelated arrest warrants.
