Deputies: Volusia mom left young children alone in deplorable conditions at motel

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Volusia County mother is behind bars, accused of leaving her three sons— all under the age of four — alone for hours.

Daytona Beach police arrested Shantel Bray after finding the children at The Royal Inn on Ridgewood Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

They said the boys were in dirty clothes and diapers.

One of the children had to be rushed to the hospital after passing out, but is expected to be OK.

Police said the room was covered in trash, and there was very little food in the fridge.

Reports said an officer smelled something burning in the room and found a frozen corn dog in the microwave with the plastic still on.

The Department of Children and Families took custody of the children and is investigating.

Bray is facing multiple child-neglect charges.
