Man pistol-whipped, robbed while talking to woman in car

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County man was attacked and robbed, and deputies said they are interviewing to a woman who was in a car with him when the incident happened.

The couple was chatting inside a car when they were approached by a man, who then pistol-whipped and robbed the victim.

The victim said he saw the woman drive his attacker away.

Investigators said they are trying to figure out if the victim was set up by a man and the woman.

Investigators said the couple met along Wildview Drive in Apopka.

After the victim called 911, deputies spotted the car and a pursuit ensued.

Authorities said the driver crashed the car, and then as officers approached, shots were fired and they found James Brandon Holcomb, 33, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said the woman was later found and is cooperating with investigators.

Officers said Holcomb was dropped off on Wildview Drive by another person who left the area before Holcomb robbed and pistol-whipped the victim.

Police said the woman is an acquaintance of Holcomb and left with him willingly.

"I heard the squealing and I heard the impact. And within seconds, I hear the deputies behind him, so obviously the man was being chased," said witness Don Gregg.

The name or condition of the victim was not released.
