Deputies work to catch robbers targeting Orange Co. neighborhood

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County deputies are hoping surveillance video will help them catch thieves breaking into homes and cars in an Orange County neighborhood.

On Friday, deputies said a man shot and wounded someone who broke into his home along Fort Thomas Way.

Surveillance video caught the burglars in the act and after the shooting.

It shows the alleged robber limping into a getaway car.

In the minutes before the shooting, the video shows three young men walking to different houses and cars.

Residents, who are mostly veterans, said it’s been an ongoing problem in the neighborhood for the past year.

“They broke into my RV, vandalized it and stole everything. Cost me a lot of money to replace everything,” said Ruben Perez. “This is the wrong neighborhood to mess with. A lot of people are armed and will defend their home no matter what.”

Residents said they’re organizing a neighborhood watch, and in addition to alarm systems and security camera, many of them are armed and ready.

“I’ll just shoot him. I got my guns,” said resident Richard Devinny.
