Disabled veteran reunited with service dog lost after crash

TAMPA, Fla. — A veteran in Tampa thought he would never see his service dog again after the two were separated following a car accident.

But thanks to a stranger, they were reunited.

Disabled veteran Luke Macner had recently adopted Nina through the Pets for Patriots program, but their new bond was broken just hours later in a car crash.

Nina showed up at a woman's doorstep after the wreck.

The woman said she got attached fast, but heard about Macner's story and brought Nina back to the Humane Society.

"Just to see her when she stood up was like, 'Oh that's my baby.' It really means the world that there were so many people out there looking and caring," said Macner.

Macner and Nina were reunited is less than an hour.

He said he was more concerned about Nina than his broken collarbone and bruises.
