Dog stolen from outside restaurant found with fugitive

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The arrest of a fugitive wanted in New York helped lead deputies to a dog stolen from outside a Port Orange restaurant.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Jesse Hoyte, 29, on charges he violated his parole in New York.

As deputies were taking Hoyte into custody after a traffic stop, they found the dog in his vehicle.%

Investigators recognized the dog as Hannah, the Sheltie stolen from outside Culver’s last Sunday night.

According to Port Orange police, Christopher Gibbs is accused of stealing the dog outside of the restaurant. Gibbs has been arrested.

The dog was returned to her family.

%Port Orange police said Gibbs was driving the vehicle and Hoyte was with him.

Hoyte is being held at the Volusia County Jail in Daytona Beach without bond on a charge of being a fugitive from justice.
