Dozens of vehicles broken into at UCF apartment building, police say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Police at the University of Central Florida said at least 36 vehicles were broken into overnight Monday in a parking lot near Lake Claire Apartments.

UCF freshman Denielle Dimarco said her roommate warned her about the break-ins and she rushed down to the parking lot.

“I came down and checked and, yeah, it was mine,” she said. “(I) just goe the windows tinted, like, three days ago.”

Brandon Lambiase with Sun State Auto Glass said his company had been working all day on repairs.

Tuesday’s was not the first rash of vehicle break-ins that he’s worked on, Lambiase said.

“We did the Altamonte Springs (break-ins) about a month ago,” he said. “I think it was over 100 in the Altamonte Springs area and Florida Hospital over there.”

UCF police said someone called 911 just before 3 a.m. to report a car burglary in progress near the apartments and when car alarms started going off the culprits ran off.

Police believed the suspects were caught on surveillance camera at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in the area of University Boulevard and Rouse Road where they crashed a stolen car.

Dimarco just hoped evidence investigators found in her car would help keep the same thing from happening to anyone else.

“It does suck knowing that a bunch of other people are going through the same thing,” she said.
