Dozens of tires slashed on Ocala area vehicles

OCALA, Fla. — Ocala police want to find the vandals who slashed dozens of tires.

Several commercial vehicles were targeted in the parking lot of the Ocala Shopping Center on East State Road 40.

Vehicles parked at businesses at the Ocala Shopping Center, a front-end loader on a construction site, and cars at nearby apartment complexes were targeted by vandals on a slashing spree.

"You would think after two or three tires it would get old, a little bit," said Danny Horn of Play It Again Sports.

Police said 74 tires on 35 vehicles were found flattened Tuesday morning.

The 1800 block of E. Silver Springs Blvd. was at the center of the slashings.

"Someone vandalized our vehicles and slashed the tires of the delivery truck," said Frank Marchesi of O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Buddy Home Furnishings was also a victim.

For some businesses, it was more than an inconvenience. It also meant a delay in deliveries while they wait to get the tires replaced.

"It's unfortunate and has cost us money," said Horn.

Police said the damage amounts to $13,000.

The Ocala Police Department is offering a $1,000  reward to anyone with information.
