Driver collides with fire truck while fleeing police

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police are looking for a driver who they said collided with a fire truck while fleeing a traffic stop.

Police said they attempted to stop the car just before midnight in the area of Columbia Street and Goldwyn Avenue.

The driver appeared to slow down, looking for a place to stop, but then accelerated through the intersection at Bethune Drive and Lewis Court.

The driver then collided with an Orlando fire truck, according to police.

Police said the fire truck was responding to a call and had its lights and sirens activated.

“I (saw) the car turning and it was coming across and the fire truck came past and all I heard was a big loud noise, like he hit something,” said witness Terry Torrez.

The driver of the vehicle fled on foot. Three passengers in the vehicle were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Two Orlando firefighters complained of soreness and were treated at the scene.

“Out fire fighters did not require treatment or transport to the hospital, however, we have documented some strain type injuries,” said Matthew Negedly of the Orlando Fire Department.

Police are still looking for the driver, who is expected to face multiple charges.
