Driver crashes into parked cars in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Lunchtime patrons at a Melbourne Applebee's witnessed a nasty car crash in the parking lot Friday afternoon.

Police said the driver drove recklessly through Palm Bay and finally crashed into parked cars outside the restaurant on Palm Bay Road.

Witnesses said they believe the man was driving 50 mph when he crashed his SUV.

"It jumped the curb and about 10 feet in front of me, it crossed in front of me and nailed that guardrail and that Explorer and the crunch sound was unbelievable," said witness Neil Sweat.

Police said the driver, whose name hasn’t been released, might have had a medical condition, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The man was taken to a local hospital. His condition is not known at this time.
