Driver sought after man run over, killed in Orlando road rage incident

ORLANDO, Fla. — A man was run over and killed early Monday after getting out of his car to confront another driver in a road rage incident, the Orlando Police Department said.

The victim, Salman Kahn, was driving about 12:45 a.m. in the area of South Kirkman Road and Windhover Drive, police said.

According to Kahn’s girlfriend, who was in his vehicle with him, another car was tailgating them and he pulled over, got out and exchanged words with the other driver, police said.

“The screaming. That was the worst part. Her screaming, like, it was hard to see,” said witness Jonathan Howard.

Before Kahn could get back in his vehicle, the driver of the other car hit the gas, ran over him and fled the scene, witnesses said.

“We heard the car hit the man, like you heard it,” Jonathan Howard said. “It didn't even sound like you think it would. It was terrible.”

Howard had stepped out of his room at a nearby hotel to smoke a cigarette and saw the incident.

“When we were coming up, the car was on the gas all the way around the corner, and when we got fully over here, we saw the man in the road,” he said. “So right away, I got my phone out and called 911.”

Detectives interviewed witnesses and reviewed security video from businesses in the area, but have not found the other driver.

“She said it all happened because they were tailgating them, and her boyfriend got out of the car, and was, like, 'Hey what's up?' And that's when the words were exchanged, and that's when everything happened,” Howard said. “I don't even know the words for it right now. It's hard to think about the words for that because just to see something over some pettiness and somebody loses their life.”
