ORLANDO, Fla. - More than 50 Orange County deputies are working to keep the roads safe from drunken drivers this Labor Day weekend.
In less than 30 minutes, officers nabbed a man with a suspended license who stopped at a DUI.
They took away his car and took him to jail.
"The holiday, the Labor Day weekend, is where there's a lot of drunk driving, a lot of underage drinking going on," Yolanda Larson of MADD of Central Florida said.
Family and friends of crash victims even stopped by with signs expressing the pain of losing a loved one to a DUI crash.
"It's very problematic. There are crashes going on every day. People are killed innocently," Larson said.
Deputies stopped a woman after her car appeared to break down in the checkpoint.
A deputy checked her for signs of impairment then let her go.
In addition to the checkpoint the Sheriff's Office said 60 roving patrols have been deployed throughout the county looking for drunken drivers.
The checkpoint goes on until 4 a.m.
