Elderly man rescued from burning Orlando apartment

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando firefighters pulled a man to safety after fire filled his Ivey Lane apartment with smoke.

Several people called 911 just after midnight Wednesday.

Neighbors said they saw smoke and told firefighters that an elderly man was still in his apartment.

Firefighters said they needed to use a ladder to reach the second story unit.

"They got inside the window and found the elderly gentleman. He was unconscious, disoriented, and we got him out of the building," said Lt. Jim Visser of Orlando Fire Department.

The man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Firefighters said there was little damage to the building.
